As research continues at the SIUE rooftop garden in Spring 2016, the garden is found to be flourishing, with more plant varieties added to help expand the growing media research. Students are enjoying the process of being able to harvest vegetables directly on campus and are making headway in recording important results that will contribute to their research studies.
So far, pure compost has been found to be the most productive for growing vegetables, especially for the carrots that have been harvested. As the garden expands, students and staff are looking forward to enjoying the wide variety of nutritious food produced by their efforts.
With this garden expected to be in place for several years, the students at SIUE will benefit from the many ways in which it contributes to their studies and healthier campus lifestyle.
